FOOD

Printing and controlling packaging in the foodstuff industry

Traceability means the possibility of tracking a foodstuff through all the production, processing and marketing stages. This is guaranteed by at least the direct upstream supplier and the direct customer being known and recorded at each and every stage of the foodstuff chain.

In order to identify foodstuffs, the batch number on the packaging is legally binding, apart from very few exceptions.

The lot information comprises numbers or letters, or frequently a combination of both. As a rule, an “L” is located at the front for recognition purposes. Lot information stands for the batch of sales units of the foodstuffs which are manufactured under the same conditions.
The lot labelling has proven itself for years. Should an article be recalled or if a public warning be necessary, the foodstuff manufacturers can react precisely. By means of the lot information, the consumer can also determine whether the warning also applies for their stocks.

This represents an almost unaffordable task for production employees and the quality assurance department. However, this check is considerably simplified by means of the use of camera systems / sensors in order to control the contents and the quality of the application of the variable data during production.

PRINTING AND VERIFYING PACKAGING UNITS IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY
FIAVis – Food Control

Printer and camera with visualisation control combined on an IPC touch panel

The customised automation solution that includes everything you need!

The coding system equips your products and packaging units with variable data and barcodes. This information is read by the downstream camera and sent to the panel PC for verification.

In the process, both the master data of the current production batch and variable data such as manufacturing details and expiry dates are checked. If an error is detected, the non-conforming product is ejected or the production line is automatically stopped.

The system is operated through the IPC touch panel with password protection. The customisable user
interface shows the current order details, relevant statistics and the last captured image in a user-friendly layout. Depending on the printer type, the operator can also check the print ink levels, change printing
parameters or access the central machine control.

Advantages at a glance:

  • User-friendly operation through centralised control panel

  • User authentication with password preventing unauthorised access (also available with RFID chip)

  • Automatic production data logging with customised reporting functions

  • The system can be integrated into any existing plant and caters for up to 4 print heads and 4 camera sensors

  • Networkable for the control of multiple machines

  • For applications that require data exchange or demand special user management with extended logging functions, the system can be equipped with an external UPS

  • FIAVis Food Control can be linked through a b+b Site Server to your ERP system

FIAVis Food Control is the ideal automation solution with integrated visualisation for product labelling and verification.
